Grade 5B Newsletter #11

Dear Parents -
We had a great fourteenth week. The kids continue to work hard. They’ve really stepped up with homework! We’re averaging over 95% completion!
We’re finishing up the Explorers unit - I’ve seen some pretty artistic stuff! Their folders are looking great!
Our third math unit – Thousands of Miles, Thousands of Seats – an interesting unit on addition, subtraction, and the number system – is going well. We’re also doing some intervention with rounding, division strategies, and place value. A lot of kids are making great progress in Rocket Math. Dan Petrie was our first graduate!
We finished our shared book, Belle Prater's Boy, by Ruth White. We’ll do a few writing assignments this week pertaining to the book.
The kids enjoyed one of our seasonal read alouds, Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins ,by Eric Kimmel. We just started another, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, by Barbara Robinson.
Our new spelling program is off to a slow start. I’ll ratchet it up this week.
We’ll be starting our solar system poster unit this week.
Best
Jim Bedard
