It was so great meeting with all of you again to share your child's progress this year. I know we didn't have long to talk, so please let me know if you'd like to meet again. Also, there's so much we do all day long that can't be shared in a short meeting. I'd like to invite you all to visit the classroom sometime during the day to see a little more of what we do. If you'd like to help out at all, there are days at 1:00 or 2:00 that we could use some help with writing, research, or other projects. Again, let me know if you are interested and available.
At conferences I handed out a reading fluency assignment for every child. It's a really simple way to practice reading. I want to remind everyone that they may turn in their sheet once it has been completed for a prize.
Much of what we do these days has to do with Egypt, but I'd like to mention two more exciting things from our class. The first is the book we've been reading together called Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech. She is one of my favorite authors and this book is a gem. The characters are funny and the story is really compelling. Please ask your child to tell you what it is about. The second thing I'd like to mention is our work in math. We are working with patterns, looking at cubes and now working with magic marbles. This work involves skip counting, multiplying, drawing diagrams, charts, and graphs. It requires a lot of different skills and the kids are really rising to the challenge and doing well. It's pretty exciting to start each day with this work. Have a great week!
