Dear Parents,
Today our class began a health unit called Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs. In this unit, students will learn about:
o the dangers of being exposed to second hand smoke
o the positive outcomes of not using alcohol
o the impact that alcohol use can have on family and friends
o strategies used by the media to discourage and encourage alcohol use.
o effective refusal strategies to be used when being pressured to use alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
The curriculum we are using is called the Michigan Model for Health. This curriculum was adopted by the school district.
There will some handouts coming home over the next few weeks. I encourage you to talk with your child about what they are learning.
