The Maple Leaf Writing Program was created over ten years ago by Flo Nestor, and it continues with teacher and Enrichment Coordinator Dianne Clouet. Maple Leaf is a project of the Brattleboro Elementary Enrichment Program. Talented and committed writers in the 5th and 6th grades each create an original story, from the earliest plot planning to a finished, bound book.
This year 24 students participated in Maple Leaf from beginning to end. The books were judged in two separate, rigorous rounds of judging. Judges included teachers, writers, and librarians. First place went to Rhys Glennon for his story On the Writing of Books, second place to Olivia Howe or Sapphire Lake, and third place to Julia Belyung for On Eagles' Wings.
